“1930, The Year of the Great Snow” (BRDW 1/2/138)
Photograph of a boy and girl [unidentified, but the girl is possibly Mary Churchill, later Mary, Lady Soames] in the snow at Chartwell [Kent], tobogganing down a slope, with the boy on his stomach and the girl on top of him. An unidentified woman [? “Nana”, Maryott Whyte] in a long dark coat, hat and boots is watching on one side, and an older girl [? Sarah Churchill, later Sarah Oliver, Sarah Beauchamp and Sarah, Lady Audley] in a jacket, breeches and snowy boots is on the other, both in profile. Behind, at the top of the slope, is a wall, with trees beyond.
