“Mr Churchill visits the Army of Occupation, 1919” (BRDW 1/2/66)
Group photograph of WSC [Secretary of State for War] and others, walking past the camera in open grassland near [Cologne, Germany]. WSC is in the centre foreground, looking ahead, wearing a top hat, spotted bow tie and light coloured suit, and leaning on a cane with his gloves in the other hand. There are several officers around him, including (only partially visible behind WSC) [? Field Marshal Sir Henry Wilson, Chief of the Imperial General Staff], and just ahead, [General Sir William Robertson, Commander-in-Chief, British Army on the Rhine]. There is a [?] gun carriage in the background and a pair of horses being ridden (presumably pulling another gun) beyond it.
