“Taken at Chartwell” (BRDW 1/2/97)
Photograph of WSC painting [the mill at the Chateau St-Georges-Motel in Dreux, France, home of Jacques Balsan and Consuelo Balsan (earlier Consuelo, Duchess of Marlborough), photograph taken by Paul Maze]. He is standing amongst trees, with some water and a white building beyond it in the background, turning away from the camera, with his brush on the painting on an easel before him. He is wearing a light-coloured siren-type suit, and a floppy white hat, while his open painting box is on a stand in the foreground, with the edge of a table with paint brushes on it, and a couple of bottles on the ground beside it, are just visible to the left.
